Three new Bangladeshi films have opened in theatres across the country for the Sharadiya Durga Puja festival, according to দ্য ডেইলি স্টার বাংলা. The releases are Sneher Bondhon, Kat-Piece and Chirkut. Television channels have also scheduled a run of festival programming, including special dramas and a mythological production on Bangladesh Television.

Why it matters

The Puja period is one of the year's busiest stretches for Bengali-language entertainment, and this year's calendar pairs cinema releases with a broad television slate. For audiences, it means fresh local content on both big and small screens over the same few days. For the industry, the theatrical openings offer a holiday window when families traditionally go out together.

What is showing in theatres

Sneher Bondhon is directed by Kamruzzaman and features Joy Chowdhury and Mou Khan in the cast, দ্য ডেইলি স্টার বাংলা reports.

Kat-Piece was made and produced by Iffat Jahan Mom. Its cast includes Shifat Amin Shuvo, Nanjiba Torsa, Imran Ahmed Sawdagar, Bappy Ashraf, Saiful Kabir and Elina Shammi. The film is running at cineplexes and single-screen halls.

Chirkut is directed by Muntasir Akib. Among its cast are Shamol Mawla, Azizun Mim, Kazi Nowshaba Ahmed, Sumon Patwary, Abdullah Al Sentu, Sanjib Ahmed, Shawon Ashraf, Iqbal, Azmal Mithu, Siam Nasir, Shimul, Sadi Khan, Shamim Ahsan, Sheikh Chandni, Mahira Hasan and Ibrahim Sujon. This title is being screened only at cineplexes and multiplexes.

Special drama on Masranga

Masranga Television will air a special drama titled Radhika at 10:30 pm, দ্য ডেইলি স্টার বাংলা reports. Written by Amanul Haque Helal and directed by Farhad Alam, it stars Fazlur Rahman Babu, Mihi Ahsan, Rana Chowdhury and Joyraj, among others.

The story follows Radhika, a girl from a poor family who is pleasant in appearance but tough in temperament. Madhab, the son of a fishing family, falls in love with her, and events unfold from there.

BTV's Vijaya Dashami offering

Bangladesh Television is producing a special programme called Anjali Laho, Anjali, built around a blend of drama, dance and music. It will trace the mythological narrative from the arrival of Goddess Durga through to the slaying of Mahishasura.

Produced by Yasmin Akter, the programme is scheduled to air at 10 pm on Vijaya Dashami, the final day of the festival. Niranjan Adhikari compiled the script, and Joya Saha and Abhijit present it.

Deepto TV's film screenings

Deepto Television will show the film Suraanga at 10:15 am, featuring Afran Nisho and Toma Mirza. Later the same day, at 2:30 pm, the channel will broadcast Tandob, which stars Shakib Khan, Jaya Ahsan and Sabila Nur, among others.

What to watch

With the theatrical releases now in halls and the television specials spread across Vijaya Dashami and the days around it, audiences have a packed schedule of local productions to follow through the rest of the festival.
